Blackrock Castle Observatory is one of Ireland’s leading science centres.
Its vision is to affect positive change in attitudes toward science, engineering and technology in Ireland and be recognised and respected as a centre of excellence in scientific research, education and outreach.
Its Mission is to provide the people of Cork city and Ireland with a centre of excellence in science:
By fostering interest in science, engineering and technology through the medium of astronomy; By developing innovative programmes which increase awareness of science, engineering and technology; In collaborating with governmental, professional, industrial and educational establishments on programmes which increase awareness of science, engineering and technology through research in astronomy, optics and imaging; By exploring and developing applications for our research; Through consultative services to governmental, professional, industrial and educational establishments; Through our activities and commitment, inspire people of all ages and from all walks of life to experience the wonder of science.
