INTRODUCTORY TEXT TO THE LESSON When the students visited the geographical area, they noted that air pressure varied as they ascended the mountain.
They decided to investigate air resistance as a topic.
The mountain is on a flight path to Shannon Airport and they observed differences in flight patterns depending on the weather.
They decided to look at flight and investigate it using paper aeroplanes. They also looked at how altering the size and shape of a parachute can affect the rate of descent. They implemented this through the 'Egg Drop Challenge'.
The video shows the students helping each other to design and construct paper planes. They then trial them outdoors.
In the 'Egg Drop Challenge' they had to design a parachute that woudl allow an egg to survive a 5m drop unbroken.
