TEACHING SCIENTIFIC SUBJECTS THROUGH PROBLEM BASED AND REAL LIFE CASE SCENARIOS

Teaching scientific subjects become the challenge and opportunity to improve the teaching system. More and more openly, teachers discuss about shortcomings of traditional teacher – centred teaching methods. The research give the message that traditional teaching methods are not effective any more for contemporary children and teachers should give priority for non-traditional teaching methods.

The primary goal of the module is to introduce learner - centred learning methods, which are considered as non-traditional in secondary education schools.

First chapter is dedicated to the analysis of contemporary student’s psychological features and learning needs. The benefit of e. learning is introduced and learning methods of e. learning environment are highlighted. Second chapter highlights the strategies of learner-centred learning environment. Class management strategies make up the difference between teacher-centred and learner-centred learning methods. Third chapter is dedicated to the problem based learning as dominant non-traditional methodology of teaching science in secondary and higher education. Recommendations for effective use and limitations are considered in the chapter. The module ends with brief introduction of real life case scenarios method, highlighting the conditions of its’ effectiveness.
