Introduction
The increasing significance of science and technology is a constant feature of our society. Therefore, a basic understanding of science and technology has become crucial nowadays. However, the unprecedented development of science and technology is not accompanied by a growth in students’ interest in these subjects. On the contrary, in many countries, recruitment to scientific and technological studies is falling. The chapter focuses on scientific education, its main challenges and obstacles. It also presents European policies, goals and benchmarks for the promotion of scientific education Europe 2020 and ET 2020. It further explores tendencies in national policies for the promotion of scientific education Science education, which should be an essential component of a learning continuum for all, from pre-school to active engaged citizenship.
